Snohomish County is a great place to work and raise a family and Terry is working hard to bring people together to ensure we continue to create and attract family wage jobs.
Terry serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) as Vice President of the Economic Development Board and is a member of the Economic Alliance of Snohomish County and the Trade Development Alliance. As a member of these organizations he is working to strengthen our economy, bolster trade, and partner with both the business community and workers to ensure the jobs of the future so our families can thrive.
Terry is committed to public safety. He prioritized adding new Deputies to keep our citizens and their property safe and in the 2017 budget, Terry added $1,000,000 back into the Sheriffs Department to save vital services. This included funding for the Office of Neighborhoods, which has made significant progress in helping address the homelessness problem throughout the County.
Terry was also able to save the Violent Offender Task Force program to help ensure we keep dangerous criminals away from our communities, added four new Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys plus one new staff person to reduce caseloads, and promoted a partnership with the North Sound Behavioral Health Organization to expand facilities in Snohomish County to better treat people suffering from opiate addiction.
Improved Infrastructure, Parks & Sidewalks
One of Terry’s top priorities is improving pedestrian safety. Working with colleagues he was able to create a new sidewalk program with dedicated funds ($530,000 annually) to fill in sidewalk gaps in the highest development areas.
Terry has secured millions in funding for parks and open space (through Conservation Futures) and other community projects to improve our quality of life (see Terry’s Record page). He is working to increase housing affordability and is working to ensure the County grows in a smart way to help ease traffic congestion.
Supporting Seniors & the Vulnerable
Terry has worked tirelessly to support seniors and our most vulnerable and currently serves on the board that oversees the Northshore Senior Center. He has increased funding to senior centers throughout Snohomish County and helped the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center receive a surplus Community Transit van to provide rides for seniors.
Terry voted with his colleagues to provide a $1,000,000 County contribution to a Low Barrier Housing Project. This project partnered with the City of Everett to establish a homeless pilot project plan.
Transportation & Transit Services
With Terry’s guidance Snohomish County is investing $91 Million in transportation and pedestrian projects in County Council District 4 over the next six years. He helped improve transit options with increased service from Community Transit where he serves on the Board of Directors.
Terry has worked with communities to secured funds for adaptive signals to improve traffic flow, added additional roundabouts, traffic lights and other transportation related infrastructure. He has been an advocate with federal, state, and regional leaders to secure more funding for our highways and has worked to provide more bus and rapid transit options for commuters.
